Collect

Eternal Shepherd, regard graciously
Thy flock, and keep it with an
everlasting protection, by the
intercession of blessed Pius, Thy
Martyr and Sovereign Pontiff, whom
Thou hast constituted shepherd of the
whole Church. Through our Lord
Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who lives and
reigns with Thee in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.

Pope Pius I was, according to Irenaeus (Against Heresies II.31; cf. Eusebius, Church History V.6) the 9th Bishop of Rome / the 9th successor of Peter making him the 10th Pope.

During his Pontificate, He opposed the gnostic heretics, who believed (among other things) that you needed some sort of special ‘key’ or knowledge/ spiritual enlightenment to be saved & believed in some sort of lesser deity apart from God.

Through tradition we are also told that Pius was the one who first set easter to always be on a Sunday,
