The Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Seven Sorrows of Mary

Feast: September 15, Friday of Sorrows  (Friday before Palm Sunday)

Today is one of the two feasts of the Seven Sorrows of Mary. Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows has its roots in the Middle Ages, thanks to the work of the Servite Order not long after they were founded in 1233.

Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows is often recommended by exorcists as it is believed to provide spiritual protection by God through her intercession. This is rooted in her complete and perfect submission to God’s will throughout her life, especially during her seven sorrows.”

Although the feast of the Assumption is often regarded as one of the most glorious feasts of Our Lady, often seen as her triumph. The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows shows us a unique aspect of her triumph. This feast highlights the Virgin Mary’s complete submission to God’s will, even in the deep sorrow she experienced in witnessing the Passion of her Son, Jesus Christ. In a similar manner, Good Friday, despite being a day cloaked by suffering and death, it is the triumph of God’s love and mercy over sin, laying the groundwork for the ultimate victory over death of the Resurrection.”

The sorrows of Our Lord Jesus Christ and Our Lady are to be thought of as great and unique, as they are without sin. Their perfect love and holiness deepen their suffering, making their sorrows greater from our own.

I will make a guide for the Chaplet of our Lady of sorrows and post it here, at a later date.
